PANews reported on August 13 that according to Decrypt, an Australian man was sentenced to three years in prison after his partner accidentally received a millions-dollar refund from Crypto.com. Jatinder Singh, 39, pleaded guilty to stealing $4.4 million in the Victorian County Court and was sentenced. In May 2021, Singh tried to deposit $65 into the Crypto.com account using his partner's bank account, but was rejected because the name did not match. Due to a major accounting error by an employee, the account was refunded 10.47 million Australian dollars (about 6.8 million US dollars). Singh then transferred the funds to the couple's joint account and made a lot of consumption, including buying luxury goods, real estate and giving 1 million Australian dollars to friends. It took seven months of internal audits to discover the error. Singh's partner, Thevamanogari Manivel, was sentenced to 209 days in prison and was later released and received a community correction order.
