According to ChainCatcher, the United States (New York Times) stated that Space Exploration Technologies Corporation and its founder Elon Musk repeatedly violated federal reporting agreements and failed to provide details of meetings with foreign leaders, which attracted military scrutiny.

According to reports, the Office of the Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Defense, the Office of the Undersecretary for Intelligence and Security, and the U.S. Air Force have launched a review of Musk's classified security issues. The U.S. Air Force refused to give Musk high-level security access because it may pose a security risk.

SpaceX is one of the main contractors for the U.S. Department of Defense and NASA, and Musk holds a top-secret security clearance, but has not complied with reporting requirements since 2021.
