According to Decrypt, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated at The New York Times DealBook Summit that the lawsuit against ChatGPT puts The New York Times on the wrong side of history. The lawsuit alleges that OpenAI and Microsoft used New York Times articles to train AI models without permission.

Altman stated that The New York Times paid special attention to its content when building large language models, showing recognition of the value of these works. OpenAI countered that The New York Times manipulated prompts to support its claims and did not present the facts in full.

Altman called for the establishment of a fair creator compensation system, suggesting an opt-in model that allows creators to receive micro-payments when their works are used.
