According to TechFlow, French media reported that a group of hackers recently launched an attack on the data systems of about 40 tourist sites in France, including the Grand Palais Museum, the venue for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The attackers obtained sensitive financial data and threatened to leak the information unless a ransom in cryptocurrency was paid. The ransom amount and the type of cryptocurrency were not disclosed.
The French Anti-Cyber Crime Brigade is investigating the incident. Paris authorities said the attack did not affect preparations for the Olympics and the museum shop that was attacked is still operating normally.
