At the 2024 Bitcoin Conference in Nashville, former President Donald Trump made a major announcement, promising to commute Ross Ulbricht's sentence if he wins a second term. He stressed that this matter will be a top priority from his first day in office.

Trump's promise to pardon Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht, who has been imprisoned since 2013, was warmly received by conference participants. Ulbricht has previously expressed gratitude for Trump's support, hoping for a chance at freedom. David Bailey, CEO of Bitcoin Magazine, previously stated that any presidential candidate seeking support from the crypto community should commit to releasing Ulbricht. This sentiment was echoed by other political figures, including Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

In his speech, Trump detailed an ambitious plan to make the United States a leader in Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.

His agenda includes firing SEC Chairman Gary Gensler within the first 100 days, launching Operation Chokepoint, and opposing the introduction of a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). He also emphasized the importance of protecting the rights of individuals to self-custody digital assets.

Trump proposed creating a single bitcoin storage facility with the goal of creating a Strategic National Bitcoin Reserve.
