According to ChainCatcher, the People's Procuratorate of Xuhui District, Shanghai, announced through its official WeChat account that the local police cracked a case of illegal theft of virtual currency using backdoor programs. According to people familiar with the matter, during the investigation, Huobi HTX actively cooperated with the Shanghai police in conducting investigations and collecting evidence, using on-chain data to identify criminals and assist the police in quickly solving the case.

In this case, the victim, Mr. Ou, had millions of RMB worth of virtual currency stolen from a wallet software. After investigation, it was found that a total of four wallet developers had implanted backdoor programs in the wallet software used by Mr. Ou to obtain user private keys, mnemonics and other information, and one of them stole Mr. Ou's virtual currency.

Finally, the Xuhui District People's Court sentenced four defendants to fixed-term imprisonment and imposed fines for the crime of illegally obtaining computer information system data. The successful cracking of this case and the court's verdict show that stealing other people's virtual currency constitutes a crime. The state not only protects virtual currency assets, but also cracks down on crimes that infringe virtual currency.
