On July 20, Monad’s first Chinese community meetup ended successfully.
Everyone says that the Monad community is doing a great job and that Meme culture is great, but how did they do it? What experiences are worth learning?
In a rare opportunity to co-work and learn with Monad & the community, I finally had the opportunity to participate and experience it in depth.
The community is very important for most Web3 projects. I will share the following content based on my own observations and experiences. I hope it will be helpful to friends who are working in the community. You are also welcome to criticize me.
The community needs a spiritual core (value), not just idle chat and activity
On the surface, we see a lot of purple pepes, so-called purple alliances, animals, etc. But from the perspective of the Monad community, we are always building value.
In his presentation that day, Sung Mo (Monad APAC Lead) mentioned a picture:
—> Create value in communication;
—> Value spillover creates greater influence;
—> Influence attracts more Value;
Thus continuing to create value to form a cycle ♻️
So what exactly is Value? In my opinion, the best translation is "spiritual core".
Bring More Value means more people with the same “spiritual core” but with different skills, different languages, and different identities.
The new members inherit the Core Value and make this Value more colorful.
For example, from a single project’s purple theme color 💜, it evolved into the Purple Alliance;
From a single pepe, it evolved into a rich variety of creatures.
What is the "spiritual core" of Monad?
I’m sorry I don’t have an answer, but if I had to, it would probably be Community itself.
People with different values and animals all belong to the same community. Although it sounds simple, Monad really realizes it and turns it into a spirit, which subtly influences more community members.
I want to give another great example of brand & community building, Mad Lads.
The spiritual core of Mad Lads is adventure/pioneering. On this basis, Mad Lads established the Roster Project to provide funding for "extreme sports" enthusiasts.
Although not everyone can become an "extreme sports" enthusiast, the community can understand the spirit of "adventure" and thus continuously contributes content with consistent "spiritual core" to the community, thereby attracting more users.
At a Mad Lads community gathering in Hong Kong a few days ago, when community members mentioned a 100-kilometer hiking event, everyone felt: This is very Mad Lads.
Compared to making the community active through pure chatting, it is more important to identify the spiritual core and how to convey it.
How do Monads communicate? The following sections will give some references.
The evolution of meme, making the community the master of meme
Meme can bring more "attention" to a public chain and make the project more popular. Therefore, in addition to the "Meme token" hyped by users themselves, many projects also want to create their own "Meme content".
I think the reason why Monad's Meme is so successful is that it allows the community to become the owner of the Meme.
In fact, the evolution of Monad's Meme culture has also undergone an evolutionary process.
It all started out as a purple pepe 🐸;
Afterwards, the community created a custom purple mascot (I don’t know what it is 🤷♀️);
After that, there were a bunch of animals of various types.
Every time, the community's work is applied to many official dissemination contents. The community's content is recognized.
Monad also has a Meme library on tg that collects and displays community-created Memes.

Suddenly one day, a new evolution occurred.
When a community member uploaded the Meme, he gave it a name "moladak", which then became exclusive to this Meme, and later evolved into Chog and Moyaki.
Each Meme has their own name, House, and volunteers running their Twitter.
Memes also have their owners.
In this event, we brought Monad House members offline to allow them to integrate with the community once again.
The above memes come from the community and belong to the community. The creation, operation, and iteration of meme content are all managed by the community.
The official only supports, integrates and does a good job of disseminating information to the community.
Recently, Monad house welcomed a new member, Moncock🐓, and the community began to divide camps according to different houses, opening up more gameplay.
Delegating power to the community, true autonomy of the community
The community's autonomy is not limited to Meme. The community also has full decision-making power in more matters related to the community, achieving true community autonomy.
During the preparation of this event, I had the opportunity to collaborate more frequently with the Moand team and friends in the Chinese community. Conventionally, many things are actually confirmed and executed with the project team itself, but in fact, for this event, the community is the real owner.
Share 3 thoughts during this period:
1- Community decision-making power and identity
In most discussions, the team will leave the decision to the community, such as on-site setup, T-shirt design, etc.
Before the event, the community needs to take care of how to introduce the event to the community, hold AMA, etc.
The official team will also participate in support and fully trust the community.
2- Actively seek help and participation from the community
For the community, group completion > independent completion. No matter how deeply each person in the group participates, the sense of participation itself is more important.
3- Community Nomination and Autonomy
When communicating with friends in the community offline, you will hear the term "who nominated whom".
Generally, DC communities give different community members “roles”, but in the Monad community, in addition to this, if you want to upgrade, you need to be nominated by more senior members. As a nominator, while getting to know each nominated member better, you will also call on new members to make “real contributions”.
For example, you will see that some community members have made music for Monad, and even popularized Monad-related knowledge through small games.
Finally, there are some small details, such as:
I remember when SungMo first met Jiuge and Sophia, he was very familiar with the community members;
Every community member who arrived at the site felt that they had met each other too late;
There are also community members who receive handmade gifts from members of other countries;
In order to enrich the activities, many community members took the initiative to bring more peripheral items to the scene.
The last point is that I have also conducted research with many friends before and asked them from a third-party perspective why they think the Monad community is doing so well?
In addition to Meme, most friends will mention that Keone himself is very down-to-earth and has no airs. At the same time, he is also a rare founder who sacrificed a lot of his image 😂
After all, in addition to being the founder, Keone is also an ordinary member of the community.
It’s been a great journey. Thank you Monad for trusting Shenchao. I’m also grateful for meeting Kadd, Jiuge, Sophia, Dream and so on.
Nads love nads 💜
