Google updated its policy on cryptocurrency and related products in August this year, and will open NFT game advertising in mid-September, continuing its recent encryption-friendly attitude. However, there are some restrictions on advertising content, and gambling promotion content is prohibited.
Google will open NFT game advertising in mid-September
According to Google’s announcement, starting from 9/15 this year, advertisers can promote NFT gaming products and services as long as they do not promote gambling-related content.
The announcement made it clear that it is feasible to promote games based on blockchain and involving NFTs. Here are some examples:
"NFT games allow players to purchase in-game products, such as player character virtual clothing, weapons or armor with better values, which can be consumed or used in the game to enhance the player experience or help the player progress in the game."
However, Google also states that the following behavior is prohibited in ads:
Promote that players can stake or stake NFTs in exchange for a chance to win anything of real-world value (including other NFTs).
Example: Players can stake NFTs in exchange for cryptocurrency.
Announcing a social gambling game with NFTs as rewards.
Example: Gambling games that simulate casinos (such as Texas hold'em, slot machines, or Russian roulette) offer the opportunity to win NFTs.
Sites that promote real money gambling, including gambling-related ads that appear on gaming sites.
Judging from the above conditions, Google has currently opened up advertising restrictions for NFTs, except that advertising content involving gambling or staking rewards is prohibited.
In addition, if you really want to run gambling-related ads that integrate NFTs, advertisers need to comply with Google's gambling and gaming policies and apply for Google Advertising Certification. At the same time, advertisers must also comply with local laws and regulations.
Google has friendlier policies than Apple
Google's open attitude towards NFTs and crypto-assets can actually be seen from the Google Play policy adjustment in July this year. Developers will be able to integrate digital currencies and NFTs into apps and games. The plan is expected to be fully implemented by the end of the year.
In addition, there are also certain gambling-related regulations for in-app NFTs. For example, users are not allowed to indirectly purchase NFTs through random draws, such as loot boxes in games.

However, compared to Apple, Google allows apps to unlock specific content through NFT, whether the NFT is purchased in-app or held in a wallet. On the other hand, considering Apple’s “empowerment” restrictions and in-app purchase transaction fees of up to 30%, Google is much friendlier to developers.
