According to Cointelegraph, Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim announced plans to include Bitcoin in city government assets in order to diversify investments.

On November 26, Sim submitted a motion to the city council, scheduled for presentation on December 11, titled “Maintaining the city’s purchasing power through diversified financial resources: Becoming a Bitcoin-friendly city.” As of November 27, the motion has not yet been published on the city government’s website.

Bitcoin proponent Jeff Booth said Sim’s motion is aimed at getting Vancouver to include cryptocurrency as a reserve asset. Cointelegraph contacted Sim’s office but did not receive a response by press time.

During Sim’s mayoral campaign, his party, A Better City, announced it would accept cryptocurrency donations, demonstrating its commitment to technology. Since being elected mayor in October 2022, Sim has rarely spoken publicly about Bitcoin or cryptocurrency adoption.

Sim has a copy of The Bitcoin Standard in his mayor’s office, a book cited by many cryptocurrency supporters to promote policies for Bitcoin adoption.
