According to Cointelegraph, the Blockchain Research Center at Australia’s RMIT University faces an uncertain future. Professor Ellie Rennie said on X that the center has been closed, but its co-director Jason Potts said the situation is still under discussion and no decision has been made.

RMIT's procedures call for a week of consultation with staff, with Potts required to come up with workable solutions to keep the centre afloat. Since its opening in 2017, the centre has failed to produce enough high-quality research to be self-funded.

RMIT's discussion of whether to close the center comes as the crypto market picks up. Potts and co-founder Chris Berg have said the center was an experiment to create a new type of business school that emphasizes industry engagement and entrepreneurship, according to people familiar with the matter.

The final decision rests with RMIT Business School deputy vice-chancellor Colin Picker.
