According to Cointelegraph, US President-elect Trump has suggested bypassing the Senate confirmation process and directly appointing government officials, including the chairman of the SEC.

On November 10, Trump posted on the X platform that he had the right to choose the Senate majority leader and hoped that the potential leader would agree to bypass the confirmation process through recess appointments so that officials could be appointed immediately.

Under the U.S. Constitution, the president has the power to fill vacancies when the Senate is not in session, and appointments expire at the end of the next session. Trump used this power to appoint officials during his first term.

Current President Biden nominated Gensler as an SEC commissioner in 2021, and the Senate confirmed him by a vote of 54 to 45, with his term ending in June 2026. Trump has promised to fire Gensler "on the first day" if he is re-elected, but experts say he cannot remove him from office without cause.
