A deep-pocketed whale recently took out 1,000 BTC from a Bitcoin wallet that had been inactive for almost 12 years! 🤯 Whale Alert, the crypto tracker, reported that this ancient wallet transferred 998.73 BTC to one address and 1.263 BTC to another this Sunday.
This whale had accumulated his hoard of 1,000 Bitcoins in September 2012, when its total value was only $12,223, according to BitInfoCharts. Today, with BTC trading at $64,682, this colossal sum is now worth over $64.7 million, a staggering increase of almost 530,000%! 📈💸
Over the past 12 years, this dormant wallet has received small amounts of Bitcoin, primarily due to dusting attacks. These attacks involve hackers sending tiny amounts of crypto in an attempt to break the privacy of wallets and track their transactions.
This Sunday transaction is not the only recent ancient whale activity. Last Friday, a crypto wallet containing 25 BTC, or $1.43 million, was activated after more than 10 years of inactivity. And on July 9, Whale Alert spotted a wallet containing 24 BTC, or $1.44 million, activated after more than 11 years of dormancy. 🚨
