Several armed police were seen on the roof near the stage where Mr. Trump was standing.
US President Joe Biden said he did not have detailed information about Mr. Trump being shot. But later a statement from the White House said Mr. Biden received a brief briefing about the incident.
The US Secret Service later reported that Mr. Trump's health condition was fine.

CNN also quoted Mr. Trump's spokesman Steven Cheung as saying that the former US president is "fine".
"President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick actions during this heinous act. He is fine and is being examined at a local medical facility. There will be more detailed information," Mr. Cheung said.
