Making $290 million from a $27 investment: Christopher Koch's story

Christopher Koch, a Norwegian student, made a fortune investing in Bitcoin (BTC).

Explore his journey:

In 2009, while doing his thesis on encryption, Koch learned about Bitcoin. To gain practical experience, he bought about $27 worth of BTC, enough for 5,000 tokens at the time.

Although Bitcoin was only mentioned in 2008 in response to the global financial crisis, Koch still decided to invest. However, when he told this story to his girlfriend, she did not support it, thinking it was a waste of money.

“She thought I was wasting money on nonsense,” Koch recalls.

After completing her thesis, Koch continued with her life, focusing on finding a job and managing household chores. Bitcoin was not profitable then and he forgot about his investment.

Years later, Koch realized that his 5,000 bitcoins were now worth 5 million crowns (about $885,000). He withdrew 1.1 million kroner to buy an apartment, keeping the rest of his assets for investment.

Koch checked his account every day and saw it increasing by 50,000 kroner each day. "Every day I log into my online banking and see the account has increased. Plus 50,000 kroner, plus another 50,000 kroner," he laughed.

“Even in my wildest dreams, I could not have imagined that they would fly this high.”
