Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched AWS App Studio, a generative AI-based service designed to speed up the application development process. It allows businesses, fintech firms and financial institutions to create apps in minutes instead of days or weeks.

AWS App Studio, unveiled at the AWS Summit in New York, aims to empower professionals who do not have software development skills. This tool can be leveraged by data engineers, IT project managers, and enterprise architects to build internal applications quickly, knowing that they are all securely managed by AWS.

Non-developers empowered with App Studio

AWS App Studio addresses the problem of scarce development resources for custom applications faced by non-developers. Low-code tools are often used, but these have steep learning curves and require platform-specific knowledge that fails to meet security standards and forces users to hand over app management to development teams.

The users need to describe the application they want, specify its functionality and identify data sources to be integrated. If changes need making, a point-and-click interface guided by a generative AI-powered assistant makes it easy to do so.

The new service allows individuals with some technical expertise to build enterprise-grade applications that were previously limited only to professional developers. By creating an outline that verifies user intent, AWS App Studio generates a multi-page UI along with a data model plus business logic without requiring them to interact with the underlying code.

AWS applications vice president Dilip Kumar highlighted the transformative potential of AWS App Studio, noting that it “opens up application development to an entirely new set of builders, helping them create enterprise-grade applications in minutes.”

“Now, using natural language, any user with some technical experience can simply describe the application they want to build, and App Studio takes care of the development process, delivering an application that employees can start using immediately,” kumar added.

AWS is at the center of Amazon’s AI effort. In addition to launching proprietary AI products, several AI companies and products rely on AWS services, including Anthropic, to operate their models. Cryptopolitan reported in May that AWS contributed more than 60% of Amazon’s total operating profits in Q1.
