World Chain, Sam Altman's Layer-2 project, opens its doors to developers

This means that selected developers can apply to build, test and provide feedback to Tools For Humanity, the development company behind Worldcoin.

World Chain has leveraged Optimism's OP Stack, a customizable toolset that allows developers to create their own blockchains using Optimism's technology, to build their own network.

OP Stack has become a popular choice for building Layer 2 chains and was used by Coinbase to build their "Base" network.

“I think they are visionaries, the team that is behind this, they have been at this for a while,” said Remco Bloemen, head of blockchain at the Worldcoin Foundation, the nonprofit that supports Worldcoin, in an interview with CoinDesk.

According to previous reports from CoinDesk, World Chain is expected to be available to users later this summer. Bloemen did not give an exact date for the mainnet launch, but said they do not plan to open a testnet for users.

“This is going to evolve into a mainnet at some point. But it's just an opportunity for people to test their infrastructure and be prepared for when this becomes a mainnet,” Bloemen told CoinDesk.

Additionally, the World Chain project would operate Reth, a new Ethereum client software developed by venture capital firm Paradigm, in shadow mode, and Tools for Humanity plans to commit engineering resources to get Reth ready for the mainnet.
