Tangem, known for developing Shiba Inu’s customized hardware wallet, has announced a partnership with Visa. This collaboration aims to combine mainstream payment solutions with self-custody capabilities.

By integrating Visa’s payment infrastructure with Tangem’s secure wallet technology, the partnership seeks to enhance the accessibility and usability of digital assets in everyday transactions. This move represents a significant step towards bridging the gap between traditional financial systems and the growing world of cryptocurrency.

Tangem Partners with Visa to Launch Crypto Payment Integration

Tangem, known for creating customized hardware wallets for Shiba Inu, has announced a new partnership with Visa to integrate cryptocurrency payments directly with Visa payment cards. This collaboration will introduce a new product named Tangem Pay, expected to launch by the end of the year. Tangem’s CTO, Andrey Lazutkin, revealed in an interview with Cointelegraph that this development is based on a Visa certification and patent granted in February 2022.

The Tangem Pay product will enable users to spend various cryptocurrencies directly from their wallets at Visa-supported merchants. Initially, the service will support USDT on the Polygon network. Tangem currently supports thousands of digital assets across 59 blockchain networks, including Shiba Inu (SHIB) on Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain (BSC), and Shibarium. It also supports other tokens in the Shiba Inu ecosystem, such as Doge Killer (LEASH) and Bone ShibaSwap (BONE).

Although Tangem plans to expand support to additional cryptocurrencies in the future, specific details and timelines for these additions have not yet been disclosed.

Tangem to Merge Self-Custody Wallets with Visa Payment Technology

Andrey Kurennykh, co-founder and CEO of Tangem, commented on the new development, highlighting that the payment technology will provide a dual benefit: the self-custodial features of Tangem wallets combined with the convenience of a traditional bank card. Kurennykh emphasized that this initiative aims to bridge the gap between traditional finance and digital assets, offering users the advantages of both.

Tangem Pay will not be limited to Tangem wallets alone. The company plans to extend this solution to other popular crypto wallets, such as Metamask, Trust Wallet, and Ledger. Launched in 2021, Tangem has established itself as a leading provider of crypto custody solutions, offering card-shaped hardware wallets that can be activated with or without a seed.

A Tangem spokesperson confirmed that each wallet purchase typically includes three cards. Since its inception, Tangem has produced over one million cards, including customized versions for major crypto assets like Shiba Inu. Last year, Tangem introduced Shiba Inu-themed wallets, which saw pre-orders of 5,000 units from the Shiba Inu community. The first batch of these wallets was shipped in July 2023. Tangem also expanded its Shiba Inu support by accepting SHIB as a payment method for its wallets and producing customized wallets for Shiba Inu’s partner, Bad Idea AI.
