Odaily Planet Daily News: In the past week, at least three Coinbase users and one cryptocurrency user disclosed that they were targeted by scammers posing as Coinbase, and one victim was defrauded of $1.7 million. According to what Node co-founder Tegan Kline shared on the X platform on July 7, a "good friend's" self-hosted wallet was stolen for $1.7 million the day before because a scammer tricked them into sharing part of the mnemonic. The victim said that the scammer called and claimed to be the security team of Coinbase, and sent the victim an email that seemed to be from Coinbase, confirming that the victim was "talking to an official representative of Coinbase." The scammer claimed that the victim's wallet was "directly connected to the blockchain," causing the transaction to be sent from the wallet. Then, the scammer sent another email that seemed to be from Coinbase, showing a transfer transaction. The scammer directed the victim to a website and asked them to enter the mnemonic to stop the transaction. The victim knew that this was "unsafe," but still entered a "partial" mnemonic, but did not submit it. A few hours later, $1.7 million in crypto assets were stolen from the victim's wallet.
