The backlash against Blast may have caused many users of Layer 2 airdrops to lose confidence, but there are still many airdrop opportunities on this track that can be grasped. In this article, Bankless introduces 4 Layer 2 projects with potential airdrops and why they are worth paying attention to.

Scroll

introduce

Scroll is the 8th largest Layer2 and the 3rd largest zkEVM Layer2, with TVL approaching $1 billion and soaring nearly 20% in the past week.

Scroll was founded in 2021 and was valued at US$1.8 billion in 2023. It has received investment from well-known venture capital firms such as Polychain Capital, Bain Capital Crypto and Sequoia China.

Scroll consists of a settlement layer, a sorting layer and a verification layer. The settlement layer connects Ethereum and Scroll to ensure data availability and verify the zkEVM validity certificate; the sorting layer executes transactions, processes and sends them to Ethereum in batches to ensure data availability and validity. Proof of validity; the proof layer generates zkEVM validity proofs to ensure the correctness of Layer2 transactions, and some provers and coordinators process these proofs and finalize them on Ethereum.

Reasons for concern

In April, Scroll announced its “Scroll Sessions” rewards program, through which users can earn Scroll Marks, which are equivalent to points. The campaign also provides retroactive rewards to users who have deployed assets on Scroll since mainnet in October 2023, perhaps indicating that they are counting all activity on the chain.

Scroll recently ended Session Zero, where users can earn rewards by using native bridges or LayerZero to bridge assets such as ETH and wstETH. Session One is about to start and may support other assets and methods to obtain Marks. Referring to the previous ZKsync airdrop, Scroll is very likely to be the next top Layer2 airdrop, as evidenced by its TVL surge.

  Zircuit

introduce

Zircuit is an upcoming zkEVM that uses AI to enhance security and is backed by funds like Dragonfly, Pantera, and Maelstrom.

Founded in mid-2022 and currently in the testnet phase, Zircuit stands out for its capabilities of sequencer-level security (SLS).

Unlike other rollups that just pack transactions into blocks, Zircuit's sequencer uses AI to check the security of each transaction for hackers or exploits before packing it into blocks. If SLS identifies a transaction as malicious, it will be quarantined and never included in a block.

Reasons for concern

To grow TVL ahead of mainnet launch, Zircuit has launched a points campaign where users can deposit ETH, LST and LRT into its network.

Supports a variety of assets, including liquid pledged tokens such as wstETH and mETH, liquid re-collateralized tokens such as Puffer’s pufETH, Renzo’s ezETH and KelpDAO’s rsETH, as well as Ethena’s sUSDe synthetic USD, each offering Zircuit and Combination rewards for related projects.

Zircuit has accumulated more than $2.5 billion in pledged assets and attracted more than 1,000 applications for the “Build to Earn” program.

  Reya

introduce

Reya Network is an upcoming Layer 2 for trading optimization powered by Framework, Coinbase and Wintermute that aims to enhance market depth by providing shared liquidity to all exchanges operating on Layer 2.

Users can provide funds to the liquidity pool through private accounts and receive returns from trading spreads, funding fees, protocol fees and liquidation.

This feature is unique in that it prevents protocols from competing for liquidity through potentially dilutive reward programs, instead enabling them to draw liquidity from the overall liquidity network. In order to become the preferred place for on-chain transactions, Reya aims to achieve high-performance block confirmation times of 100 milliseconds and can process up to 30,000 transactions per second.

Reasons for concern

While the airdrop has not been officially announced, Reya has announced a liquidity bonus campaign in which depositors earn points for depositing stablecoins to fund their exchanges. Points schemes tend to mean airdrops, although a timetable has not yet been announced. In addition to deposits, Reya’s flagship perpetual DEX currently trades Bitcoin and Ethereum.

   Zora

introduce

Zora Network is an ETH Layer2 designed to make NFT circulation more efficient and cheaper.

Built using Optimism’s OP Stack, Zora provides a fast and low-cost network designed specifically for NFTs. As the first NFT-centric Layer 2 to use OP Stack, transactions are confirmed in seconds and minting costs only a few cents, plus Zora returns protocol fees to creators, making it easier to publish NFTs on its network. The artist was awarded $25 million.

Zora provides creators with a comprehensive toolkit to issue NFTs in multiple formats, whether it's an open collection, a collection, or a 1/1 artwork.

Reasons for concern

While Zora has yet to announce an airdrop, the launch of their own network suggests there may be a chain governance token airdrop in the future.

Additionally, given their participation in Superchain, Zora’s creators may once again be eligible for Optimism’s retroactive rewards, as they previously received from Airdrop 4.
