Apple and OpenAI's partnership is off to a rocky start: ChatGPT users on macOS discovered that their conversations were being stored in plain text files. 😲

Apple, a company that puts privacy first, made a mistake in integrating third-party ChatGPT from OpenAI. The app, launched in May, stored all chat logs in unencrypted text files on users' hard drives. This meant that anyone with access to a computer could read all conversations.

The question is why did this happen? Presumably, this was done so that OpenAI could easily access chat logs for further development of ChatGPT. But why didn't Apple intervene before the app launched, and why didn't OpenAI realize it was creating sensitive, unencrypted data on users' machines?
