According to Cointelegraph, South Korea's Jeju Island plans to issue NFT tourist cards in the second half of 2025 to attract the younger generation of tourists.
Jeju Island, South Korea’s largest island known for its hiking and resorts, plans to attract millennial and Gen Z tourists through digital and NFT tourist cards and increase return visits from young tourists.
The NFT travel card will be trialled before a full launch in the second half of 2025, offering travel subsidies and discounts on attractions.
In March 2024, Jeju Island officials explored how blockchain and NFTs can promote economic development and discussed the application of NFTs in the tourism industry.
In November 2024, the number of crypto users in South Korea increased by 610,000, reaching a total of 15.6 million, accounting for about 30% of the country's population. NFT sales reached US$8.83 billion, an increase of US$100 million from 2023.
