👀 BitGo has announced #переводе of its Ethereum-based Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC) business into the “world’s first multi-jurisdictional and multi-institutional custody” — a joint venture with BiT Global.
The initiative follows BitGo’s partnership with Justin Sun and the Tron ecosystem, and involves splitting custody services between Hong Kong and Singapore.
MakerDAO’s risk management team and the community at large were wary of Sun’s involvement and saw risks for WBTC, proposing to reduce new borrowing against WBTC. BitGo assured that Sun would not be able to move funds arbitrarily, and the initiative has a 60-day transition period during which all contentious issues can be clarified.
Justin Sun himself has stated that his personal involvement in WBTC is purely strategic and that he does not control the private keys with reserves.
