• Ronin zkEVM will let developers build their own ZK chains.

  • Targets handling 400 million to 4 billion transactions daily.

Sky Mavis, the innovative team behind the Ronin blockchain, has introduced a new zero-knowledge (ZK) Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) layer-2 chain, named Ronin zkEVM. This advancement is designed to significantly scale Web3 gaming activities by supporting an expanding user base and game studio collaborations.

Expanding Capabilities for Gaming Studios

The Ronin zkEVM will enable game developers to launch their own ZK chains without the complexity of managing their own security protocols and consensus mechanisms. This incorporation aims to foster a more interconnected and dynamic gaming ecosystem on Ronin’s network.

By leveraging a modified version of the Polygon Chain Development Kit (CDK), Ronin seeks to facilitate a broader and more seamless integration of game experiences.

Enhancing User Experience and Scalability

According to Jeff Zirlin, co-founder of Sky Mavis, Ronin’s upgrade is pivotal in preparing the blockchain to handle an enormous increase in transactions, targeting between 400 million to four billion daily. The current infrastructure, which supports 1.4 million daily active addresses, is set to transform under this new technology, enhancing both the scalability and the performance needed to support massive online gaming communities.

Moreover, the adoption of the Ronin zkEVM by existing games has already demonstrated significant benefits. For instance, the Web3 game Pixels, which transitioned to Ronin in October 2023, has seen a substantial increase in user engagement, with over 4.4 million active players.

With this strategic development, Sky Mavis reinforces Ronin’s position as a leader in the gaming blockchain space setting the stage for a future where digital and interactive entertainment on the blockchain can flourish without the constraints of traditional gaming platforms.
