Yaroslav Vasinskyi, also known as Rabotnik and an affiliate of the REvil ransomware group, has been sentenced to 13 years and seven months in prison for conducting over 2,500 ransomware attacks and demanding over $700 million in ransom payments. The sentencing is part of a wider crackdown on ransomware groups promised by U.S. President Joe Biden in November 2021. Rabotnik was extradited to the U.S. from Poland and pleaded guilty to an 11-count indictment charging him with various cybercrimes. He has also been ordered to pay over $16 million in restitution and the DOJ has confiscated nearly 40 bitcoin and $6.1 million in funds traceable to ransom payments.
