The department’s primary aim is to create a leaner, more efficient federal government. Senator Bernie Sanders recently highlighted the urgency of reducing waste in federal operations, saying on X, “Elon Musk is right. The Pentagon, with its staggering $886 billion budget, has failed its audit for the seventh time, losing track of billions.” Sanders added, “Last year, only 13 senators opposed the bloated defense budget riddled with waste and fraud. This needs to end.”
