Every day, over a thousand new cryptocurrencies are created, possibly even tens of thousands. No one knows the exact number, as it is impossible to determine.
However, only a handful out of hundreds of thousands of new coins make it to CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko. For a new coin to be listed on CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko, it must have trading volume, specifically being present on at least two exchanges, with at least one being a centralized exchange (CEX).
CoinGecko tends to add new coins and tokens much more quickly, while CoinMarketCap is more stringent with its applications. As a result, the addition of a new token can take weeks if the project team is not prepared to pay $5,000 for CMC support to have their application reviewed out of turn.
