According to PANews, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) announced that Telegram and WeChat have initiated the licensing process required to operate in Malaysia. MCMC acknowledged the efforts of both companies and urged other service providers to complete their applications by December 31, 2024, to comply with regulations effective January 1, 2025. The new rules aim to enhance cybersecurity, protect users, and combat harmful content. Service providers failing to comply will face regulatory challenges. MCMC stated it would assist providers in meeting the requirements to complete the application process smoothly.
