The letter says Gambarian's unlawful detention was characterized by excessive and abusive treatment. It emphasizes that the charge against the executive "is baseless and represents coercive tactics by the Nigerian government to extort his employer, Binance.""
In court, Nigerian authorities admitted that they used Gambarian as their only bargaining chip against #cryptocurrency exchanges. The prosecutor says, "The 1st defendant [Binance] is actually working. The only thing we can grab is this defendant [Tigran].

U. S. lawmakers noted Gambarian's "impressive and excellent" experience as a federal agent. They also noted the irony of the government praising a former federal agent for his legacy while he fights for his life in a prison cell:
Mr. Ghambaryan's dedication to justice and the law continued even after he left federal service. This year, as Tigran fought for his life in a prison #cell designed to hold ISIL fighters, the U. S. Department of Justice announced the historic capture and issued a press release thanking former Special Agent Tigran for his pioneering work in the investigation.
In the letter, members of Congress painted a disturbing picture, explaining that the executive's life was in danger due to a lack of medical attention. According to Bitcoinist, Gambarian suffered a bout of nausea during a court hearing May 5-23.
The previous day, concerns had been raised about his health and whereabouts, as the former U. S. federal agent had failed to appear in court for a tax evasion case filed against him. But he collapsed the next day and appeared at a hearing on money laundering charges, which required medical attention.
It has since come to light that Ghambaryan was diagnosed with malaria and denied proper medical attention by prison staff.
