On May 22, 2010, Laszlo Hanyecz made history by conducting the first real-world Bitcoin transaction.

He paid 10,000 bitcoins to Jeremy Sturdivant in exchange for two Papa John’s pizzas, which Sturdivant delivered to Hanyecz's home. At the time, the transaction was worth about $41, but given Bitcoin’s subsequent rise in value, those 10,000 bitcoins would be worth hundreds of millions of dollars today.

This event, now celebrated annually as "Bitcoin Pizza Day," marks a pivotal moment in the adoption and use of cryptocurrency, illustrating Bitcoin's potential as a medium of exchange.
