World Refugee Day is an international day observed on June 20th every year to honor the strength and courage of millions of refugees forced to flee their home countries due to war, violence, or persecution.
The day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2000 to raise awareness about the plight of refugees and to encourage the international community to do more to help them.
The theme for World Refugee Day 2023 is "Hope Away from Home." This theme highlights the resilience and hope of refugees, even in the midst of great adversity.
According to the UNHCR, there are currently over 82.4 million people displaced worldwide, including 26.4 million refugees. The majority of refugees come from Syria, Afghanistan, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
World Refugee Day is an important day to remember the millions of people who have been forced to flee their homes, and to show our support for them. We can all do our part to help refugees, by donating to organizations that provide them with assistance, or by volunteering our time to help them rebuild their lives.
