According to Odaily, a report released by Paidun reveals a significant increase in security incidents in the crypto domain during the first half of 2024. The period witnessed over 200 major hacker attacks, resulting in an estimated loss of around $1.56 billion. However, $319 million was recovered. Compared to the same period in 2023, this figure represents a substantial growth of 293%, when the loss was $480 million.
DeFi protocols remained the primary targets of these attacks, accounting for 59% of the total stolen value. More than 20 public chains experienced significant hacker attacks. The top three cryptocurrencies in terms of loss amount were Ethereum, Bitcoin, and XRP.
Furthermore, Ethereum and BNB Chain were the most frequently attacked, with each accounting for 31.3% of the total number of attacks. They were followed by Arbitrum, which accounted for 12.5% of the attacks.
