The world global footballing body, Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and Mythical Games, a web3.0 gaming studio have collaborated to launch FIFA Rivals. FIFA Rivals is a free-to-play soccer game for Android and Apple’s iOS platform.
A Vision for Player-Driven Soccer Gaming
The real-time arcade game play set for release in the summer of 2025 will give gamers governance control over their own clubs. That is, FIFA Rivals allows users to manage their club and compete against other players on the platform.
According to Mythical, gamers get to “build their squad, create legacy and dominate the competition.” This suggests that gamers will have freedom to form a team and select their favored players. Mythical CEO, John Linden believes FIFA Rivals could attract a huge following.
Linden projects about 100 million gamers could jump on FIFIA Rivals when launched next year. His optimism stems from the NFL Rivals game which has over six million players signed up. This is despite having fewer audiences unlike football with a huge fan base. Globally, about five billion people tuned into the 2022 FIFA World Cup compared to approximately 500 million that watched the NFL playoffs last year.
Blockchain Technology Powers FIFA Rivals
Mythos blockchain which Mythical launched in 2022 will power FIFA Rivals and Polkadot network will secure the game. This is another collaboration between sporting associations and blockchain gaming studios. The goal is to deliver excitement and interactive experiences to fans of the game.
An added advantage of blockchain games includes offering players the opportunity to own and monetize it in a play-to-earn economy. This also helps to popularize Web3 among football fans as they interact with the game.
Expanding Mythical Games’ Success
Mythos Foundation, which is behind FIFA Rivals, has the task of building cross-chain infrastructure. They also provide support to gaming guilds, nurture traditional esports participation in Web3 and partner gaming platforms to design new policies for gamers.
