Hamster Kombat Faces Sharp Decline Amid Political Backlash and Rising Competition
Once a dominant tap-to-earn game on Telegram, Hamster Kombat has experienced a significant drop in both user base and engagement due to political challenges, new competition, and rumored bans. In August, the game enjoyed a vast user base of 300 million, but as of November 5, this number has dropped to just 41 million active monthly playersâa dramatic 86% decrease.
Rise of Paws Mini App: A New Challenger
Meanwhile, Paws, a recently launched Mini App on Telegram, is rapidly gaining traction. The app has attracted 20.5 million users within its first eight days, outpacing Hamster Kombatâs initial growth. This rise underscores shifting user preferences within the Telegram gaming community.
Declining User Engagement and Token Value
According to IntoTheBlock (ITB) data, Hamster Kombatâs activity peaked on September 27 with around 772,330 active addresses. Since then, user engagement and interest in its native token, HMSTR, have sharply declined, with user activity falling over 36% in the past week alone. Reflecting this trend, the HMSTR token price has plummeted by almost 70%, dropping from a high of $0.01 on September 26 to approximately $0.0022 on November 4, according to CoinGecko. ITBâs active addresses ratio (AAR) chart, which calculates the ratio of active users to token holders, reached a 30-day low of 0.34% active addresses, suggesting diminishing engagement.
Despite these challenges, the number of HMSTR holders continues to rise, reaching a 30-day high of 3.5 million on November 4, potentially indicating that users are holding on to the token in anticipation of future developments.
Comparative Decline Across Telegram Gaming Tokens
This downward trend aligns with the performance of other Telegram games, such as the Dogs (DOGS) token, which dropped in value from $0.0014 to $0.0004 between August and November 4. The DOGS token AAR also indicates a steady decline in activity, with active users hitting a 30-day low of 0.27% on November 3.
Political and Market Pressures
Hamster Kombat has also faced criticism from Iranian officials and has been subject to rumors of bans in Uzbekistan, though these rumors were later dispelled. In response to these challenges, the Hamster Kombat team shared future plans with Cointelegraph, including integrating new payment systems, launching additional games, and incorporating non-fungible tokens (NFTs) as in-game assets to reinvigorate user interest and engagement.
