• Telegram's once flagship game Hamster Kombat has seen its user base and engagement plummet due to political backlash, bans and new competitors.

Hamster Kombat had 300 million users in August, but as of November 5, it had only 41 million monthly active players, down 86%.

Meanwhile, the recently launched Paws mini-app on Telegram has surged in popularity, reaching 20.5 million users in its first eight days, surpassing Hamster Kombat's growth trajectory.

According to IntoTheBlock (ITB), the number of active addresses in Hamster Kombat reached 772,330 on Sept. 27. Since then, user activity and interest in the #token has declined, dropping more than 36% over the past week.

Hamster Kombat's problems are also reflected in the price of the HMSTR token, which, according to CoinGecko, has fallen nearly 70% from an all-time high of $0.01 on Sept. 26 to about $0.0022 as of Nov. 4. This drop correlates with a decline in online engagement and daily active users.

This downward trend is confirmed by the ITB Active Address Ratio (AAR) graph (which calculates the ratio of active addresses to addresses containing HMSTR), which shows a 30-day low of just 0.34% of active users.

However, according to ITB, the total number of addresses hosting HMSTRs continues to grow, reaching a 30-day high of 3.5 million on Nov. 4. Comparing the performance of other popular Telegram games, certain patterns can be seen, such as in the case of the Dogs token (DOGS), which fell from $0.0014 to $00004 between August and Nov. 4.

The AAR graph for DOGS also shows a steady decline in activity along with a drop in the token's value, reaching a 30-day low of 0.27% of active users on November 3. Hamster Kombat faced criticism from Iranian authorities and rumors of a ban in Uzbekistan, which later turned out to be false.

The Hamster Kombat team previously told Cointelegraph that future plans include integrating payment systems, launching new games and offering unique tokens ('NFT-') as in-game assets.
