Worldcoin Rebrands to World And Introduces Faster Orb for Identity Verification
According to CoinDesk, Sam Altman's Worldcoin project has rebranded itself as 'World' and introduced a new, faster version of its iris-scanning device, the 'Orb.' The project's primary objective remains the creation of an identity-verification system that allows individuals to anonymously prove their humanity online. The new Orb 2.0 is designed to be quicker to build and operate, featuring improved chips and open-source code.At a recent media event, Altman and co-founder Alex Blania, along with World employees, detailed their plans for the updated Orb. Chief designer Rich Heley emphasized the need for a significant increase in the number of Orbs, suggesting that around 1,000 additional devices are necessary. These Orbs will be deployed in various locations, including storefronts in Buenos Aires and Mexico City, local coffee shops, and even available for home delivery via an app.In addition to the Orbs, World aims to expedite the adoption of its world ID system by allowing users to onboard through government IDs. Chief Information Security Officer Adrian Ludwig noted that while this method does not confirm the user's humanity as effectively as the Orb, it includes additional checks to prevent deep fakes. A new feature, World ID Deep Faces, will enable internet users to verify that the individuals they are interacting with online are not deepfakes, provided they have a World ID.Following the presentation, the token WLD experienced a decline of approximately 5%.
