Even though Gupta claimed that all privileged accounts had two-factor authentication (2FA) activated, this event has nonetheless raised worries about security procedures. Cybercriminals have been targeting Discord, a popular platform for crypto forums, because of the valuable information and assets that are shared or maintained there.
Moreover, everyone in the community is starting to feel the effects of the breach. Also, a Polygon user went on the X platform to alert others about what was happening.
Beware of Phishing Links
The individual claims that fraudsters masquerading as official Polygon support agents took advantage of the overflow of users in the support channel on Discord. Someone provided a link to a scam on the announcements channel. And the user got a timeout for attempting to bring attention to the problem.
The attackâs seriousness was further highlighted when another user, ValidatorK, revealed that his pool had lost $150,000 worth of Ether. Instantaneous depletion of funds occurred after engaging with what seemed like an official announcement on Polygonâs Discord channel.
Furthermore, the crypto community has been hit hard by a slew of high-profile hacks. The most recent of which being an assault on Polygonâs Discord. The blockchain security company CertiK brought attention to a phishing scheme. That was going around the Arbitrum Discord channel on March 25, 2023.
