Ethereum’s leading developer, Consensys, has hired a new CFO from Disney’s executive in the higher development of the company’s leadership team. The news came via a press release on Tuesday amidst rising regulatory challenges that are now becoming apparent in the Cryptocurrency industry. Despite the challenges, Odell, with over 15 years in closely working with Disney on finance and growth strategies, can effectively manage.
Before arriving at Consensys, Odell was the CEO of Improbable, a Softbank-funded startup involved in creating virtual worlds. He managed investor relations, partners, and fundraising at this company, which will be valuable as Consensys aims to advance its financial operations and consider various development prospects.
Odell’s appointment comes on the heels of a mid-June lawsuit by the SEC against Consensys, which alleges the company conducted business as an unregistered broker. The legal challenge enhances the complexity of this position since Odell will need to assist the company in navigating potentially rough seas. Lubin also said that he is confident that Odell will be able to fit into Consensys’ strategic direction, given his experience in finance and operations.
A Great Move at a Crucial Moment
Throughout his career, Odell worked for Disney from 2004 until 2020, during which he assumed significant roles. He first started with Disney Consumer Products as the financial planning and analysis director. Then, he was promoted to the CFO of the business segment that deals with mobile and online gaming units. By 2014, Odell was in charge of Disney's entire gaming business, including operations in several countries.
His duties were to prepare and present financial statements and accounts—abilities that will be invaluable to him at Consensys.In 2017, Odell was promoted to vice president of global product management at Disney, overseeing marketing, product, and business development departments.His extensive experience of over eight years in leading varied teams and understanding of the global market may be essential for Consensys as it seeks to expand its presence in the blockchain industry.
