Involving Virtual Currencies Investigated by the Financial Conduct Authority

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) reported that two individuals, aged 38 and 44, have been released on bail pending investigation. "The FCA plays a crucial role in keeping dirty money out of the UK's financial system," stated Therese Chambers, FCA's Executive Director of Enforcement and Market Oversight, as quoted in the Daily Market Report.

The suspects' offices were raided, and devices were confiscated. In the UK, cryptocurrency businesses must register with the FCA under anti-money laundering regulations. UK authorities are increasingly dealing with illicit cryptocurrency cases.

In May, a woman was sentenced to over six years for laundering Bitcoin linked to a $5.6 billion investment fraud in China. Separately, the FCA charged nine social media influencers, with a combined following of 4.5 million on Instagram, for promoting unauthorized forex trading schemes.
