Elon Musk, the owner of X (formerly known as Twitter), has shared his thoughts on the recent arrest of
#PavelDurov , the founder of Telegram, in France.
Musk responded to the news by tweeting, "Here's a powerful endorsement of the First Amendment. Quite compelling," referencing Durov's arrest.
In a lighthearted tone, Musk also hinted that by 2030, Europe might even resort to extreme measures like executions for simply liking memes.
The First Amendment is a key part of the Bill of Rights in the U.S. Constitution, ensuring that Congress cannot infringe upon the freedom of speech and the press.
Reports from French media indicate that Durov was detained at Le Bourget airport on Saturday evening. The arrest occurred as he disembarked from a private jet that had reportedly arrived from Azerbaijan.
Local sources claim that Durov, a French citizen, was listed as a wanted individual in the country. The French judiciary reportedly links Durov to various criminal activities, including Telegramās refusal to cooperate with the authorities.
On Sunday, the Telegram founder could potentially face charges related to terrorism, drug trafficking, fraud, and money laundering.
