About Polygon Ecosystem Token (POL)

POL is the native token upgrade within the Polygon ecosystem, tailored for diverse activities and multiple purposes. It serves as a key tool for network participation and security. By staking POL, users can actively engage as validators within the ecosystem. Similar to MATIC, POL is developed using OpenZeppelin's ERC20 standards, supports EIP-2612 for signature-based permit approvals, and thus retains many of the features present in MATIC.

The Polygon network is undergoing a major transformation with MATIC transitioning to POL. POL will take over from MATIC as the gas and staking token for the Polygon PoS (Proof of Stake) network. Although POL will initially function as the primary gas and staking token, its utility may expand over time, especially within the AggLayer, based on the Polygon community's decisions.

The shift to POL is a community-led initiative that embodies the shared vision of the Polygon ecosystem. Since its introduction in PIP-17 last year, the Polygon community has been instrumental in shaping this transition.

This migration marks a crucial phase in the development of the Polygon ecosystem, introducing significant modifications to the network's operations.

Binance will facilitate the token swap from Polygon (MATIC) to Polygon (POL). MATIC tokens will adopt the POL ticker symbol on Binance. Each MATIC token will be converted to POL at a 1:1 ratio.

POL is listed on Binance for trade and purchase. The current price of POL is available in real-time on Binance.

Other Questions About Polygon Ecosystem Token

  1. What is $POL Used For?

POL is used for a variety of functions within the Polygon ecosystem. It serves as a gas token for paying transaction fees on the Polygon PoS network and is staked by validators to secure the network, allowing them to earn rewards. Additionally, POL enables holders to participate in governance, giving them a voice in shaping the future of the Polygon ecosystem. A key feature of POL is its ability to allow validators to operate across multiple chains in the AggLayer, further aiming to enhance the network's scalability and efficiency.

  2. How Do Network Consensus and Validation Work On Polygon?

Polygon PoS uses a modified proof-of-stake consensus mechanism. Validators stake POL tokens to earn the right to validate transactions and produce blocks. The network achieves consensus with every block, which can be more efficient than traditional proof-of-stake systems.

  3. Who Is The Founder of Polygon?

Polygon (formerly Matic Network) was founded in 2017 by Jaynti Kanani, Sandeep Nailwal, Anurag Arjun, and Mihailo Bjelic.

  4. What is the Maximum and Circulating Token Supply of $POL?

The initial maximum supply of POL tokens is 10 billion, and currently has a 2% emissions rate to support protocol growth and R&D efforts. The circulating supply will depend on the migration process from MATIC to POL, which is ongoing as of October 2023.

  5. What Makes POL Different From Others?

POL's hyperproductive nature allows for multi-chain validation, increasing scalability and efficiency. Its unique emissions model supports sustainable ecosystem growth, and its role in Polygon's comprehensive scaling solutions sets it apart from other Layer 2 tokens.
