Crypto researcher Liam is working on an experimental proof-of-concept protocol called Axon, which allows users to host datasets via Bittorrent and earn tokens. How the Axon protocol works includes creating an on-chain escrow pool, with nodes earning tokens for escrow data, using ZK-SNARKs to distribute rewards, and customizing the reward/token economic model. Each hosting pool has a user-defined reward module, so Synthetix, for example, can pay SNX rewards to people who host Synthetix dapps. The protocol also supports "privacy staking rewards", which uses technologies such as Aztec/Tornado to receive reward tokens anonymously. The Axon protocol will use WebTorrent, allowing users to actually stream video via Bittorrent. Currently, the protocol is still in the proof-of-concept stage, and more features will be launched in the future.
