How a Crypto Wallet Works 🔐
⚠️ Truth #1: Your wallet does not "store" your cryptos
Your cryptos are on the blockchain.
Your wallet only stores the KEYS
that prove you are the owner.
No keys = No cryptos. Simple.
🔑 The 2 essential keys:
📬 Public Key = your crypto IBAN
→ You can share it with everyone
→ Allows you to receive cryptos
🔒 Private Key = your ULTIMATE bank password
→ Never share it with anyone
→ Gives full access to your funds
If someone knows your private key
→ they can empty your wallet in seconds
🌱 What is the Seed Phrase?
It is a list of 12 to 24 randomly generated words.
It represents your private key in a readable form.
Fictional example:
"apple moon river table silver ghost cloud..."
⚠️ If you lose your seed phrase → you lose everything
⚠️ If someone finds it → they take everything
→ Write it down on paper
→ Store it in a safe place (not online, ever)
🔥 Hot Wallet vs ❄️ Cold Wallet
🔥 HOT WALLET (connected to the internet)
→ Metamask, Trust Wallet, Phantom
→ Convenient for daily transactions
→ Risk: vulnerable to online hacks
❄️ COLD WALLET (offline)
→ Ledger, Trezor
→ Ideal for storing large amounts
→ Minimal risk if used properly
Golden rule:
"Small amounts → Hot Wallet
Large amounts → Cold Wallet"
🏦 Exchange Wallet (Binance, Coinbase…)
Convenient for buying/selling quickly.
BUT: you do not control your private keys.
✅ The 5 absolute security rules:
1. Never share your seed phrase online or in a photo
2. Always check the address before sending
3. Use a hardware wallet for >500$
4. Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) everywhere
5. Be wary of fake sites and phishing
