The twins argue that Trump is “pro-Bitcoin” and “pro-crypto,” while accusing President Joe Biden of waging a war against cryptocurrency. Tyler Winklevoss said,

“President Donald J. Trump is the pro-Bitcoin, pro-crypto, and pro-business choice. This is not even remotely open for debate. Anyone who tells you otherwise is severely misinformed, delusional, or not telling the truth.”

Tyler pointed to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) enforcement actions against crypto firms during Biden’s administration. He criticized the administration for the “weaponization of the banking system against crypto companies,” referencing Operation Choke Point 2.0.

The Winklevoss twins did not mention any regulatory actions taken under Trump’s administration from 2017 to 2021. Their focus remained on the current administration’s policies.

Winklevoss Twins Donate Millions to Trump Campaign

The twins’ financial support for Trump goes beyond their recent Bitcoin pledge. They attended a June fundraiser for Trump, where entry costs were as high as $300,000 per person. Additionally, they have contributed about $5 million to the Fairshake political action committee and its affiliates. This PAC has been active in launching attack ads against lawmakers and supporting various Democratic and Republican candidates.

Despite Trump’s legal troubles, including his conviction on 34 felony counts in May, the Winklevoss twins remain steadfast in their support. Trump leads the polls as the prospective Republican presidential candidate, with a sentencing hearing scheduled for July 11.

Trump’s Crypto Campaign Moves

In recent months, Trump has made several moves to align himself with the crypto community. He hosted a dinner for those who purchased a non-fungible token (NFT) of his mugshot from a criminal case in Georgia. Trump’s campaign has also announced that it will accept donations in cryptocurrency. Furthermore, he met with executives from major mining firms, declaring his intention to have all Bitcoin mined within the United States.

President Biden has also considered accepting cryptocurrency donations for his reelection campaign.

Mixed Reactions to Winklevoss Twins Backing Trump

The Winklevoss twins’ endorsement has garnered mixed reactions on X. Many users expressed support for their decision, while others questioned Trump’s true intentions regarding cryptocurrency. Some speculated that Trump might be attempting to emulate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a crypto-friendly candidate running as an Independent in 2024.

Trump once labeled Bitcoin a scam in 2021 after leaving office. This past stance raises questions about his current position on the crypto industry. The Winklevoss twins remain confident in their choice, urging the “crypto army” to send a strong message to Washington.
