Microsoft announced the launch of Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR), an AI-driven upscaling technology designed to enhance gaming experiences on Copilot+ PCs. Auto SR will be available exclusively on Copilot+ PCs and will support popular titles like Borderlands 3, Control, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

The technology aims to improve frame rate and graphical performance for the selected games and bring a new level of gaming experience to Windows users. Auto SR technology will be available exclusively on Copilot+ PCs, which are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X processor and run on Windows 11 version or later.

Auto SR Will Enhance Gaming Performance

In a recent presentation, Microsoft highlighted how the Auto SR feature will help increase the frame rate of Borderlands 3 from 26 fps to 41 fps without compromising the image quality of the game. Auto SR employs top-end artificial intelligence to increase the number of frames per second by reducing the rendering resolution of the game and then enhancing high visual resolution.

This technology is ideally intended for Copilot+ PCs with the presence of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X processor. The initial list of games that will support Auto SR includes:

– 7 Days to Die

– BeamNG drive

– Borderlands 3

– Control

– Dark Souls III

– God of War

– Kingdom Come: Deliverance

– Resident Evil 2

– Resident Evil 3

– Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

– Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2

– The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Auto SR will be an opt-in feature for games like Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Skyrim: Special Edition.

Microsoft Shifts to ARM Processors

The introduction of Auto SR coincides with Microsoft’s shift to ARM processors for its Copilot+ PCs. These devices are driven by the Snapdragon X processor which has an integrated GPU and Hexagon NPU.

Copilot+ PCs powered by Snapdragon X processors will require Windows 11 version 24H2 or later and a display that supports at least 1080p resolution. These PCs were announced earlier in brands like Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Samsung, and Lenovo with shipping beginning on June 18.

Microsoft Plans to Expand Auto SR Support

Auto SR will be supported for all games on Auto SR-capable machines, but the highest performance and Microsoft support will only be reserved for some games. Microsoft has claimed that more games will be added to the list down the line so more gamers can reap the benefits of its latest upscaling technology.

Integrating AI-driven upscaling technology into the gaming environment reflects a broader trend in the industry, where AI and machine learning are used to improve gaming experiences. Auto SR is the latest effort to offer gamers a better gaming experience through advanced technology that enhances performance and graphics quality.

Microsoft’s Auto SR technology is expected to bring major changes to the gaming sector by increasing frame rates and delivering HD visuals. After the introduction of Copilot+ PCs, Microsoft plans to continue to add support for more games with better in-game experiences using AI and ARM processors.
