Decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) provider Dabba, renowned for delivering wifi connectivity to underserved markets, has announced the launch of season two of its demand-driven program. This new phase will see the rollout of 10,000 additional hotspots, available for purchase to participants globally, and subsequently deployed by network partners across India. The initiative aims to address high data demand in regions lacking sufficient internet access.

Season two of Dabba’s DePIN service commenced on May 23, ahead of a significant token generation event on the Solana blockchain, scheduled for July. The introduction of a native token will facilitate a two-sided marketplace between data consumers and providers who are integral in building and maintaining the internet infrastructure. These contributors will be rewarded for their participation in the Dabba network.

To mark the launch of season two, Dabba has unveiled an explorer tool, allowing users to locate existing data hotspots and monitor current network performance. Initially, the explorer will display data from Dabba’s testnet, which has been operational for the past two months.

Since the inception of the Dabba testnet, over 1,500 hotspots have been deployed, connecting more than 15,000 unique devices. This has resulted in the consumption of over 390 TB of data and generated more than $4.5K in revenue from customers utilizing Dabba’s affordable wifi service. The addition of new devices aims to meet the growing data demand and substantially increase revenue.

Empowering Connectivity

Dabba’s approach is designed to address the real-world issue of wireless data shortfalls by implementing its DePIN and onboarding users before introducing Web3 features like tokenization. This strategy has ensured genuine demand for its service and established a scalable, viable business model.

The primary deployment of Dabba’s DePIN is focused on India, targeting rural and semi-urban areas underserved by current data solutions. Despite India having the world’s second-largest number of internet users, 44% of its population still lacks internet access.

Dabba’s team brings eight years of network development experience and has significantly contributed to Google’s public WiFi projects in India. They have collaborated closely with the Indian government to ensure supportive legislation for the rollout of its demand-based DePIN.

Participants who enroll in season two of Dabba’s DePIN program before the token generation event will be eligible for enhanced genesis rewards. Dabba’s mission is to empower over 150,000 Local Cable Operators (LCOs) functioning as micro-ISPs across India for hotspot deployments, aiming to establish a high-speed network connecting the world’s fifth-largest economy.

Dabba’s DePIN specializes in bridging the digital divide in underserved markets by providing access to wireless data through a robust network capable of delivering high-speed internet. By creating a two-way marketplace for wireless data, Dabba is playing a pivotal role in bringing the world online.
