Marathon Sets New Record by Mining Bitcoin’s Largest Block, Showcasing the Logos’ Manifesto

On May 3, the Bitcoin network validated its largest block to date at block height 841,886, which included an inscription showcasing the technology stack dubbed Logos’ manifesto. This block, similar to the one that previously held the record as the largest, was mined by Marathon.

Record-Setting 841,886 Bitcoin Block Mined, Outpacing Previous Milestone

Marathon has once again set a milestone by mining the largest block ever recorded on the Bitcoin blockchain. Namely, block 841,886, showcased a manifesto of a decentralized technology initiative called Logos, featuring just four transactions with the manifesto. For their efforts, Marathon’s mining pool earned a reward of 3.16977148 BTC, including 0.04477148 BTC, or $2,654.55, collected in transaction fees.

This record-breaking block surpassed the previous largest, block 832,849, linked to the Runestone Ordinal project and connected with Leonidas, the host of The Ordinal Show and founder of ord.io. With the Runestone inscription, block 832,849 contained a total of 7 transactions.

While block 832,849 measured 3.990 megabytes (MB), the Logos block reached 3.993 MB. The ongoing enthusiasm for Ordinal inscriptions on the Bitcoin blockchain has been a key driver behind the emergence of these exceptionally large blocks. This trend began when Taproot Wizards generated a 3.96 MB block, mined by Luxor in Feb. 2023.

Marathon made history again at the end of March by mining block 836,361, which featured the initial version of Bitcoin block art. This block displayed the letter “M,” created by arranging the transaction types within the block to form the image. Despite its artistic nature, the block was only 1.72 MB in size and included 8,320 transactions.
