Upland, the metaverse gaming platform based on real-world locations has announced the Genesis 2024 Hackathon contest featuring multiple prizes for participating teams. The event is structured into three phases with the first and second phases rewarding the teams placed first and second with cash prizes.

According to the announcement, in the first phase, the top-placed team will receive a Kick-off Grant prize of $2,500 while the second-placed team gets $1,000. In the second phase, the 1st placed team receives an MVP Deployment Bonus of $15,000 while the second-placed team receives $7,500.

To qualify for the MVP Deployment Bonus, teams will be required to have successfully integrated MVP (minimum viable product) in Upland within the required period.

Those who get past the second phase will proceed to the third and final phase, which presents an opportunity for the finalists to pitch to the Upland team in person in Las Vegas for a chance to join the Sparklet Grant Program.

The finalists will be allowed to send a representative member to Las Vegas with Upland covering hotel expenses and airfare for 1 team member, offering up to $500 for travel within the USA and $1,000 for international travel.

The Hackathon event does not require teams to submit a working prototype of the product as it focuses more on the diversity and calibre of entries into the contest.

The event comes after Upland introduced the SPARKLET token, which essentially bridges the platform’s native token, Spark to external platforms increasing its use cases.

The participating teams will be asked to use the Upland platform and developer tools to design a new offering, which can be with a game, service or experience that will help grow the Upland community.

Although no working prototype is required, teams will be asked to present within 10 days, a compelling business plan outlining goals and strategies to achieve them. “The more detailed and polished, the higher your chances of getting selected,” Upland wrote in a press release.

Among the key items that the business plan needs to address include the introduction of the team members, presenting the concept and a unique value proposition, describing the MVP and how it meets the challenge, and demonstrating how the team will use Upland’s developer tools for the project.  The teams will also be asked to showcase their go-to-market plan.

All entries will be required in PDF format with finalists submitting a separate Canva presentation, Upland said.

Submissions close on May 10th at 9:00 AM PT, with finalists announced on May 13th, 2024. Upland has set up a panel of judges, who will evaluate each presentation with the winning team to be announced at the Upland Awards Show on June 7th.
