I have never met anyone who did not need money. Whether you are the president of a bank or a missionary, you are going to need money in order to get through life. It has been said many times before but it always bears repeating, “Money is not everything, but it is pretty close to oxygen!” This Tip is not about money, but rather about your attitude towards it.
I cannot tell you how many times in my own personal life I have been running a little short on funds. You may be in that position right now. If that is the case, I have good news for you! Whether you realize it or not, you are in a position to earn more income than you are presently receiving. It will require a little thought and energy on your part but it will be well worth the effort. Allow me to explain how it is done!
In order to earn more than you presently make, you must learn some things that you do not currently know. People who are making huge sums of money are not better than you. They are not smarter than you, nor are they more special than you. However, they do know a few things that you do not know. That is why they earn the money they do. You see, they have become an expert in a specific area of life so they are being rewarded for learning the information they have received. You see, they are getting paid more because they learned to think more.
Consider this for a moment. When we think of large wage earners, one of the groups we usually think of first is medical doctors. Why do they get paid so much? It is because of what they know. And, how do medical doctors know so much? They expended the time and effort to go to school and go through the rigors of receiving a medical degree. Perhaps it is because they learned more information than the typical person knows about their own field of expertise and are now in a position to earn more revenue for their efforts.
The same is true of an attorney or airline pilot. They usually have a larger income because they have taken the time to learn some specific skills that other people do not possess. These professionals are not better than you or smarter than you. But, they do know some things that you do not know. Additional knowledge greatly increases your earning power because you begin to see that the issue is not how smart you are but rather how committed you are to learning new information.
On numerous occasions I have seen someone who is willing to invest time, effort and energy into learning new skills. When those new skills are acquired, that person will be in a whole new position to generate additional income. It is also interesting to me that the income is usually not the main focus. The passion is all about learning a new skill set or acquiring a way to become a more passionate person about life and the money is simply a by-product of the newly acquired additional information.
I do not believe that it is necessary for you to become a world renowned scholar in a particular area to be successful, but if you do learn a great deal about a specific topic, it will not be long before people will be coming to you for advice and counsel. Then you will be in a position to increase your financial picture.
Why not choose an area today in which you would like to improve? Maybe it is in your speaking skills or in your computer skills. Perhaps it is be in the area of health or physical exercise. There is just no end to the different areas in which you can increase your knowledge and expertise.
My personal goal is to be in the top ten percent of those people in the world who teach and promote personality information. I am not in a contest to be better than someone else, but I do want to stay focused on being the very best I can be in my chosen field of interest. When you stay focused and grow in a particular area, it will not be long before you become one of the leaders in that field.
I wish someone had explained this to me a long time ago. I always thought that people who were very successful just sort of “fell into” their situation. If someone had told me that it was just a matter of them being disciplined enough to learn specific information that would eventually put them in a position to better their financial picture, well that would have helped me immensely.
If you have children who are coming to the end of their high school career, I would encourage you to let them read this Tip. When they begin to get a vision for their future and see that time is going to come and go quickly, regardless of what they do with it, it may motivate them to put some effort into the future so they can learn and become more prosperous in their particular field of interest.
I am a life-long learner and I am sure you are as well. Let the things that you learn in your life open new doors of opportunity for you. Become more and more acquainted and specialized in your own space or area of expertise and soon the opportunity for you to increase your financial picture will come your way. I guarantee it!
