According to BlockBeats, on October 22, Meta Platforms (META.O), the parent company of Facebook, announced that it will begin using facial recognition technology to combat scams involving celebrity photos, known as 'celebrity bait ads.' Scammers use photos of celebrities to lure users into clicking on ads, which then direct them to suspicious websites designed to steal personal information or solicit money. Meta will employ facial recognition technology to compare images in posts with those on celebrities' Facebook or Instagram accounts to filter out these ads. Meta stated in a blog post, 'If we confirm a match and the ad is a scam, we will block it.' Meta did not disclose how prevalent this type of scam is on its services.
