According to Odaily, as part of a milestone agreement announced last month, Apple has secured an observer position on the board of OpenAI, further strengthening the relationship between these once unlikely partners. Insiders revealed that Phil Schiller, the head of the Apple App Store and former marketing director, has been chosen for this position. As a board observer, he will not serve in the capacity of a formal director.

In June, Apple announced that it would provide ChatGP in a series of new AI features for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Insiders revealed that the board arrangement will take effect later this year, and Schiller has not yet attended any meetings. The specifics may still change.

The role of a board observer will put Apple on par with Microsoft, which is OpenAI's largest investor and a major provider of artificial intelligence technology. The position allows someone to attend board meetings, but they cannot vote or exercise other director powers. However, an observer can gain a deep understanding of the company's decision-making process.
